Diamondbacks Designate Former Intriguing Pitching Prospect For Assignment

He was once an intriguing pitching prospect.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have designated pitcher Taylor Widener for assignment.

Once considered one of the better prospects in the D-Backs' system, Widener has been unable to translate his former success to the major leagues.

That being said, this past season, the twenty-eight-year-old registered a very respectable 3.63 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, and 14 strikeouts over 17.1 innings of work in the majors. In the minors this past season, however, he posted an ugly 5.40 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and 47 strikeouts across 36.2 innings of work.

Widener is a former 12th-round pick by the New York Yankees in the 2016 MLB Draft.
