Washington Nationals Re-Sign Infielder
The Washington Nationals have avoided arbitration with Ildemaro Vargas, re-signing him to a one-year deal.
Vargas will continue to serve as a solid utility option for the Nationals. The veteran is capable of playing third base, second base, and shortstop, so Washington will be able to utilize him in several different situations if needed. Therefore, he is a decent depth player.
In 63 games this past season split between the Chicago Cubs and Nationals, he had four home runs, 23 RBIs, and a .263 batting average. The move to Washington benefitted Vargas immensely, and it will be intriguing to see if that translates over to 2023 from here.
