Washington Nationals Move on From Veteran DH
The Washington Nationals have officially rejected their half of their mutual option with Nelson Cruz.
This was expected, as there were reports that the rebuilding Nationals were going to move on from Cruz. The veteran DH struggled in his lone season in DC, as his power numbers noticeably declined. In 124 games, he had just home runs to go along with 64 RBIs and a .234 batting average.
Given the fact that Cruz just had a 32-home run campaign in 2021, there's reason to believe he could bounce back next season. Therefore, if he decides not to retire, expect him to find a new home this offseason.
