Pittsburgh Pirates Designate 4 Players for Assignment

The Pittsburgh Pirates have made some cuts from their 40-man roster, as Tyler Heineman, Manny Banuelos, Jeremy Beasley, and Junior Fernandez have all been designated for assignment.

Heineman split this past season between the Toronto Blue Jays and Pittsburgh Pirates, where he had zero home runs, nine RBIs, and a .217 batting average. Teams in need of some catching depth surely could consider adding him, as he has worked well as a backup in recent years.

Banuelos appeared in 35 games this season split between the New York Yankees and Pirates, sporting a 2-1 record and 4.39 ERA. There could be some interest in him if teams are having bullpen trouble.

Beasley did not appear in any major league games for the Pirates this season, but he did pitch in nine contests for the Blue Jays. During them, he had a 4.80 ERA.

Fernandez had a good year in the majors, as he sported a 2.41 ERA in 16 games between the St. Louis Cardinals and Pirates. This kind of season could surely lead to him being claimed.
