Philadelphia Phillies Sign Infielder
The Philadelphia Phillies have signed Shervyen Newton to a minor league contract.
Newton's tenure within the New York Mets' system came to an end this offseason, but now he is joining another NL East team in the Phillies. The 23-year-old infielder is a young prospect who is aiming to take that next step. Even if he does not make the Mets for a few years, he has the potential to become a solid option for them later down the road if he reaches his full potential.
Newton split this past season between Single-A and Single-A+, where he had 12 home runs, 62 RBIs, and a .219 batting average. Let's see how he performs in 2023 from here.
