Philadelphia Phillies Move On from Infielder
The Philadelphia Phillies have declined Jean Segura's $17 million player option and have instead elected to give him his $1 million buyout. As a result, he is now a free agent.
Segura has openly stated that he wants to remain with the Phillies, so perhaps he would be open to returning at a cheaper price. Yet, if Philadelphia wants to look for an upgrade, Segura should have zero trouble finding a new home from here. In 98 games this season, the two-time All-Star had 10 home runs, 33 RBIs, and a .277 batting average.
It will be intriguing to see where Segura lands from here. He's a quality veteran that every team would love to have, so expect a sizeable market to form for him.
