The Padres needed to clear roster space for Pedro Avila and they chose Adams as the one to remove from the roster.
Adams landed on the injured list in April after he made just two appearances for the Padres and he missed the rest of the season. The pitcher then underwent surgery to repair his right flexor tendon strain in August. It's not yet clear if Adams will be ready in time for spring training.
In the thirty-one-year-old's last full season, in 2021, he registered a 4.10 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 76 strikeouts over 52.2 innings of work. His control was erratic in that season, however, as Adams hit a league-leading 24 batters.
