New York Mets Sign Star Closer to Extension
The New York Mets have signed Edwin Diaz to a five-year, $102 million contract. It also comes with a $12 million signing bonus. It also carries a full no-trade clause and a sixth-year option.
Diaz was one of the Mets’ biggest pending UFAs, but now the Mets have successfully managed to lock up their All-Star closer long-term. This is exciting news for New York, as they now do not have any questions heading into the offseason regarding their bullpen situation.
Diaz certainly earned this payday, as he is coming off of a career year with the Mets. In 61 appearances, he sported a 3-1 record to go along with a spectacular 1.31 ERA and 32 saves. Now, it will be fun to see what he can do as an encore after landing this amazing deal.
