MLB Rumors: Texas Rangers Aiming to Re-Sign Pitcher
After a shocking All-Star campaign with the Texas Rangers this season, Martin Perez is eligible to hit the open market. However, if the Rangers have it their way, they will re-sign him before free agency begins. GM Chris Young told reporters that they are still having contract talks with Perez, while the lefty is hoping to stay in Texas for the right offer.
If Perez hits the free-agent market, he will be in for the biggest payday of his career. After years of being a pitcher with an ERA over 4.50, he was dominant for the Rangers this season, sporting a 12-8 record and a 2.89 ERA. Teams will be open to paying the big bucks for him after a year like this, so it is not a guarantee that he will remain in Texas.
We will have to wait and see what happens from here with Perez and the Rangers.
