MLB Rumors: Red Sox Pursue 2-Time Cy Young Winner

For the third straight offseason, the Boston Red Sox are pursuing a former two-time American League Cy Young winner. And this time, instead of choosing their divisional rivals, the BoSox are hoping that Corey Kluber chooses to play close to home. The 36-year-old lives in Winchester, Mass. during the offseason.

Kluber spurned the BoSox in 2021, choosing the New York Yankees' $11M offer, and then again in 2022, going with the Tampa Bay Rays and their $8M contract with $5M in incentives.

In 31 starts with the Rays this past season, he posted a 4.34 ERA with a 1.21 WHIP along with a 139:21 K/BB ratio.

Kluber won the Cy Young with Cleveland in 2014 and again in 2017. He's not the same dominant pitcher that he was during that stretch, but he's still a serviceable mid-rotation arm.

The Red Sox are in dire need of plugging some holes in their starting staff, particularly if they can't re-sign free agent Nate Eovaldi.
