MLB Rumors: Padres Likely To Re-Sign Free Agent Pitcher
And this is despite the fact that the issue of retirement was even floated by Stammen at one point. He missed two months this season with right shoulder inflammation.
Craig Stammen isn’t retiring, per @sdutKevinAcee. “I wasn’t ready. I want to go out a little better than I went out last year. I’m going to try to give it another go.” pic.twitter.com/HF542VNuH9

“I wasn’t ready," Stammen said last week. "I want to go out a little better than I went out last year. I’m going to try to give it another go.”
In his 6th season with the Padres, Stammen posted a 4.43 ERA with a 1.35 WHIP in 40.2 innings. He had a 35:10 K/BB ratio. But until his shoulder landed him on the injured list in July, he had a 3.34 ERA through 32.1 innings. Throughout his six seasons in San Diego, he has a solid 3.36 ERA with a 1.14 WHIP and 8.5 K/9.
Manager Bob Melvin loves what Stammen brings in the clubhouse, and as Rosenthal notes, is one of his "most trusted veterans."
