Kansas City Royals Designate 3 Players for Assignment
The Kansas City Royals have designated Jake Brentz, Brent Rooker, and Nathan Webb for assignment.
Out of the trio, Brentz is the most notable name. After sporting a 5-2 record and 3.66 ERA in 70 appearances as a rookie in 2021, he struggled mightily while with the Royals this season. In eight games, he had a 0-3 record and allowed 14 earned runs in just 5.1 innings pitched. A team believing that he could bounce back may be open to taking a chance on him, but we shall see.
Rooker split this season between the San Diego Padres and Royals, appearing in 16 games. During them, he had four hits in 25 at-bats, which equates to a .160 batting average. He also recorded two RBIs. Overall, he was fairly quiet when called upon, and now he is hitting the waiver wire because of it.
Webb had a truly disastrous season in the minors this campaign, so his removal from the 40-man roster is likely not too surprising to most, either. In 27 games split between ROK, Double-A, and Triple-A, he sported a 2-3 record to go along with a rough 9.99 ERA.
