Detroit Tigers Claim Infielder Off Waivers
The Detroit Tigers have claimed Andy Ibanez off of waivers from the Texas Rangers.
Ibanez was primarily a depth player for the Rangers these past two seasons, appearing in 116 games total. In 40 games this season with the Rangers this season, however, he had one home run, nine RBIs, and a .218 batting average. It was noticeably a down year for him but especially so when noting that he had seven home runs and a much better .277 batting average in 76 games during his rookie year in 2021.
Given his past success, it makes sense for a rebuilding team like the Tigers to take a chance on him. Ibanez could serve as a decent utility option for Detroit, too, as he can play third base, second base, and first base. Alas, let's see how this move pays off for the Tigers from here.
