Cubs Rumors: 3 Players Not Expected Back Next Season
The Chicago Cubs are ready for a big offseason, as management has made it known that they plan to be big spenders. However, that does not mean that everyone from the 2022 season's roster will be staying put. Let's look at three players likely on the move.
Willson Contreras: Things are not looking too hot when it comes to All-Star catcher Willson Contreras' future with the Chicago Cubs. The veteran is planning to test the market, and the Cubs have not presented him an offer close enough for him to stay put. With several teams looking to upgrade behind the plate, expect Contreras to land his big payday elsewhere.
Wade Miley: Wade Miley was limited to just nine appearances this season with the Cubs due to injury. Yet, when healthy, he was quite solid, as his 3.16 ERA shows quite well. Expect the veteran to get some attention around the league because of this.
Drew Smyly: Drew Smyly is not the biggest pending UFA, but he did have a strong season with the Cubs and will likely test the market because of it. In 22 appearances, he may have had a losing record, but his 3.47 ERA tells a better story of how reliable he was. Therefore, expect a team in need of pitching to give him a solid contract.
