Chicago Cubs Pitcher Declines Mutual Option
Drew Smyly is hitting the free-agent market, as he has rejected his $10 million mutual option with the Chicago Cubs.
This is not too surprising, as Smyly is coming off of a strong season with the Cubs and is now in line to earn a pretty solid payday because of it. In 22 games on the year, he had a 7-8 record to go along with a 3.47 ERA. After a campaign like this, there will surely be a lot of interest on the market for his services.
Smyly will likely be in the running to be another team's third or fourth starter from here. It will be intriguing to see where he ends up going from here.
