Boston Red Sox Infielder Staying Put
Eric Hosmer is not opting out of his contract with the Boston Red Sox. As a result, he will earn $39 million over the next three seasons - the majority of it will be paid by the San Diego Padres.
Hosmer will continue to serve as a first base option for the Red Sox in 2023 and beyond. In 104 games split between the Padres and Red Sox last season, he had eight home runs, 44 RBIs, and a .268 batting average. Overall, it was not too bad of a season for him, but he will be aiming to make a bigger impact from here.
With the Padres paying the vast majority of Hosmer's salary, this is not bad news for the Red Sox at all. We will have to wait and see how Hosmer performs for Boston from here.
