Veteran Slugger to Undergo Eye Surgery
Nelson Cruz was held out of the Washington Nationals regular-season finale on Wednesday night.
That marks the 20th consecutive game that Cruz missed to close out the 2022 regular season. He was reportedly dealing with a left eye infection.
Nelson Cruz is scheduled for surgery on left eye end of Oct. Inflammation is in inner corner, procedure to remove extra skin blocking his vision. Expects to resume baseball activities 6-8 weeks. He said, "Vision is everything for hitters. But the good thing is, it can be fixed."

The forty-two-year-old slugger will undergo surgery on his eye at the end of October. More specifically, the procedure will remove extra skin that is blocking his vision. He'll be sidelined for the next 6-8 weeks following the surgery, before being able to resume baseball activities.
Cruz does still plan to play next season, as he recently announced. The only problem is that he'll need to find an organization willing to take him on, as Cruz is a strict full-time designated hitter clearly in a rapid decline.
The veteran slugger slashed .234/.313/.337, with 10 home runs, 64 RBIs and four stolen bases over 507 plate appearances this season.
