Mariners Lose Outfielder to Groin Injury
It couldn't be worse timing.
The Seattle Mariners have placed utility player Sam Haggerty on the 10-day injured list with a left groin strain.
Losing Haggerty two days before the playoffs is rough. The injury occurred after Haggerty stole a base in the ninth inning against the Detroit Tigers.
Jen Mueller of ROOT Sports reports that Haggerty was moving very slowly on crutches today. Surgery is not expected to be needed, but he will miss a good amount of time.
Sam Haggerty is moving very slowly on crutches today. Said it's about the same amount of mobility as last night. The MRI results were about as expected according to Scott Servais. They don't think surgery is needed, but he will miss a good amount of time

It's a tough blow for Seattle's positional depth heading into the postseason as the versatile twenty-eight-year-old put together a solid season, slashing .256/.335/.403, with five home runs, 23 RBIs, 13 stolen bases and 29 runs scored across 83 games.
The expectation right now is that Haggerty will not be a participant in the playoffs at all.
