That's the official word from manager Terry Francona, who also confirmed that Shane Bieber will stay in turn for Game 2 on Friday afternoon following Thursday's rainout in New York.
McKenzie racked up eight strikeouts over six scoreless innings in Game 2 of the Wild Card Series last weekend against the Tampa Bay Rays. He posted a 2.96 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, and 190 strikeouts over 191 innings during the regular season.
The twenty-five-year-old has faced the Yankees once this season, on July 3, throwing seven shutout innings while striking out seven in the Guardians' 2-0 win.
