Detroit Tigers Pitcher Elects Free Agency
After being designated for assignment by the Detroit Tigers and then clearing waivers, Drew Hutchison has now elected to become a free agent instead of accepting an outright assignment.
Hutchison made 28 appearances for the Tigers this past season, where he had a 3-9 record to go along with a 4.53 ERA. With numbers like these, it is clear that it was a year of mixed results for the 6-foot-3 righty. With that, he was DFA'ed multiple times during the season, so perhaps at this juncture, it is wise for him to seek opportunities elsewhere.
Even though Hutchison had some struggles in 2022, it is possible that another team could sign him this offseason. After all, he is a 135-game veteran who is capable of being a starter and reliever. It will be intriguing to see where he ends up from here.
