Tampa Bay Rays Designate Pitcher For Assignment
Matt Wisler is off of the Tampa Bay Rays' 40-man roster, as the team has designated the right-hander for assignment.
Truthfully, this is a bit of a surprising decision by the Rays. Wisler has had a very good 2022 season and has been one of their top relievers. The truth can be seen in his statistics. In 39 games on the year, he sports a 3-3 record, 2.25 ERA, and 35 strikeouts. Overall, he has been very solid, but that simply wasn't enough for him to maintain his spot on their roster.
Wisler will now be heading to the waiver wire. The 29-year-old comes with 234 games of experience, so he is permitted to elect free agency if he passes through it. However, when looking at how well he has pitched this season, don't be surprised to see him claimed.
