St. Louis Cardinals Designate Pitcher For Assignment

The St. Louis Cardinals have made a change to their 40-man roster, as Junior Fernandez has been designated for assignment.

Fernandez has been solid when called upon, so this decision by the Cardinals is one that is a little surprising. In 12 appearances this season with the major league squad, he sports a 0-0 record to go along with a 2.93 ERA. Overall, he has worked well, but that, unfortunately, was not enough for him to maintain his spot on the team's 40-man roster.

It wouldn't be all that surprising to see Fernandez get picked up off waivers from here. Teams are always looking for pitching depth, and Fernandez just so happens to be having a good year. Thus, we will have to wait and see if that will be enough for him to find a new home.
