San Diego Padres Pitcher Likely Done For Season
According to Kevin Acee, San Diego Padres pitcher Drew Pomeranz is still dealing with elbow trouble and manager Bob Melvin is not confident that Pomeranz will be able to return before the start of the season.
The Padres certainly would love to have Pomeranz back before the end of the season. They are currently trying to cement themselves a playoff spot, as they hold the final Wild Card spot with a three-game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers. Although they have some breathing room, one bad stretch of games could change that. Thus, having a top reliever like Pomeranz back would be big.
Pomeranz had back-to-back excellent seasons with the Padres over in 2020 and 2021. In both seasons, he had ERAs under 2.00 (1.45 ERA, 1.75 ERA), so it's fair to say that he worked excellently as a setup man. Yet, unfortunately, it appears that he won't be able to come back this season.
