Houston Astros Officially Release Utilityman
Earlier this week, the Houston Astros designated Niko Goodrum for assignment. Although this inevitably marked the end of his tenure as an Astro, it was still undetermined if he would get picked up off waivers. Yet, after clearing them, the team has elected to release the utilityman.
Goodrum appeared in 15 games during his tenure as an Astro, and it's fair to say that he didn't leave the biggest of impact. At the plate, he struggled immensely, as he only mustered up five hits in 45 plate appearances. With that, he also struck out 23 times, so it was just a very difficult year for the 30-year-old.
Yet, a change of scenery could be just what the doctor ordered for Goodrum. Teams looking for a bit more depth certainly should give him a call. He is capable of playing all three outfield positions to go along with second base and shortstop. Thus, he is a solid utility option worth considering.
