Diamondbacks Recall Pitcher

The Arizona Diamondbacks have recalled pitcher Sean Poppen from Triple-A Reno.

Poppen takes the place of pitcher Luis Frias in the Diamondbacks bullpen after the right-hander was optioned to Triple-A. 

The twenty-eight-year-old has appeared in 26 games for the D-Backs this season, posting a decent 3.91 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and 19 strikeouts across 25.1 innings. He's posted a 1-2 record. 

He'll function in a middle relief role for the remainder of the regular season.

In the minors this season, Poppen has registered a 4.62 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and 19 strikeouts over 25 innings of work. He's made 21 relief appearances, converted one save and posted an 0-3 record.
