Detroit Tigers Officially Release Pitcher
The Detroit Tigers have released Michael Pineda after the veteran starter cleared waivers.
This is certainly not the outcome that the Tigers expected when they inked Pineda to a one-year contract this past offseason. The veteran was viewed as one of the team's top free-agent signings, but things just did not work out for him in Detroit. The truth is in his statistics. In 11 appearances on the year, he has a 2-9 record to go along with a 5.79 ERA. That is far worse than what many expected from him in 2022.
Teams looking for a bit of pitching depth could elect to give Pineda a chance on a minor league deal. It will be intriguing to see what happens on that front, but for now, all we know is that his time as a Tiger is over.
