Detroit Tigers Designate Veteran Pitcher For Assignment
Last offseason, Michael Pineda was viewed as one of the Detroit Tigers' top free-agent signings. Now, fast forward to September, and the team has designated the veteran pitcher for assignment. Thus, his time as a Tiger is coming to a close.
Pineda struggled this season with the Tigers when it came to both his performances and staying healthy. On the year, he only made 11 appearances with Detroit, where he had a 2-9 record and 5.79 ERA. It's fair to say that he has been underwhelming, but this is especially true when noting that he had a 9-8 record and 3.62 ERA just last year with the Minnesota Twins.
Pineda will now be hitting the waiver wire, and it will be interesting to see if another club takes a chance on him. If not, he will more than likely elect free agency over an outright assignment.
