Cincinnati Reds Designate Pitcher For Assignment
The Cincinnati Reds have designated Luke Farrell for assignment.
With this news, Farrell is officially off of the Reds' 40-man roster and will be hitting the waiver wire because of it. Farrell is certainly no stranger to this situation, as he was just claimed off waivers by the Reds earlier this offseason from the Chicago Cubs. Now, he stands a chance of getting claimed by another club this week, and we will need to wait and see if that does indeed come to fruition.
Farrell appeared in two games as a Red, where he had a 9.00 ERA. On the year in total, he has only pitched in six MLB games and sports a 5.40 ERA. Teams in need of some pitching depth may take a flyer on Farrell from here. If not, he has the freedom to elect free agency instead of accepting an outright assignment by the Reds because he has been outrighted in the past.
