Chicago Cubs Pitcher Clears Waivers
Earlier this week, the Chicago Cubs designated Sean Newcomb. This resulted in him hitting the waiver wire, but he has since cleared them.
The Cubs have outrighted Newcomb to Triple-A, but it is not a guarantee that he will report. Due to Newcomb having over three years of MLB experience, he is able to elect free agency instead of accepting the outright assignment.
The 2022 season has been one to forget for Newcomb, as he has struggled immensely. In 20 games split between the Atlanta Braves and Cubs, he has a 2-1 record to go along with an 8.78 ERA. We will need to see what the 161-game veteran decides to do from here.
