The thirty-one-year-old has been out since July 24th with a torn MCL in his left knee.
Matz returns to a 5.70 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 51 strikeouts over 42.2 innings pitched this season. He holds a 4-3 record and has made 10 starts in his first season with the Cardinals.

Matz will head to the bullpen, for now, to provide the Cardinals with some extra pitching depth. The Cardinals are sitting comfortably in first place in the NL Central, holding an 86-60 record, eight games up on the Milwaukee Brewers.
