Boston Red Sox Pitcher To Have Surgery
While speaking with reporters, Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora announced that Tanner Houck will have back surgery next week.
This development all but confirms that Houck will not be returning this campaign. Ultimately, it is an understandable decision by both the player and the team, as the Red Sox are going nowhere. They are essentially out of the playoff race, so there's no reason for Houck to potentially worsen his injury by pushing through it. Thus, surgery is the right call.
Houck was a rare bright spot for the Red Sox this season, and the truth is in his stats. In 32 appearances, he had a 5-4 record to go along with a 3.15 ERA. With that, he recorded a career-high eight saves.
Although Houck is getting surgery, he is expected to be ready for Spring Training next year. Here's to hoping he has a speedy recovery.
