Gil was already set to miss the entire 2022 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow this past May. However, the move to put him on the 60-day injured list opened up a roster spot for Anthony Banda, who the Yankees signed this past week for some added bullpen depth.

There was a lot of potential surrounding Luis Gil entering this season, as the the twenty-four year old put together a solid rookie season for the Yankees last year, posting a 3.07 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 38 strikeouts across 29 innings. He also started all six of the games he appeared in. Gil only managed to make one start this season and it didn't go so well, allowing four earned runs over four innings. Hopefully, he can get healthy and we can get a better idea of the type of pitcher Gil is.
