Yankees All-Star Reliever Headed to Injured List With Back Injury

New York Yankees appear to be losing their All-Star reliever.

Clay Holmes said Tuesday that he may need a stint on the 15-day injured list due to a back issue.

Holmes reportedly started feeling discomfort in his back several days ago and it locked up on him when he tried to throw off a mound on Tuesday.

Holmes blew a save opportunity last Friday in Boston and he has not pitched since. He had been the primary closer up until this point, but it appears that role will once again go back to Aroldis Chapman.

The twenty-nine-year-old reliever has pitched to a fantastic 2.39 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and 51 strikeouts across 49 innings this season. He's also converted 17 saves on the season.
