White Sox All-Star Has Surgery; Out For Significant Period
When shortstop Tim Anderson went down with a torn ligament on the weekend, it was a huge blow to the Chicago White Sox. At the time, he was listed as out 4-to-6 weeks, and they were unsure if surgery was going to be necessary.
Now, their worst fears have been realized; he's gone under the knife. Six weeks is the timeline.
Tim Anderson underwent successful surgery this morning in Chicago to repair a sagittal band tear on the middle finger of his left hand. His expected return to the active roster remains approximately six weeks.

The injury occurred on an innocent enough play, on a checked swing.
Anderson is a 2-time All-Star, the White Sox' leadoff hitter, catalyst, and overall team leader. His absence leaves a huge hole as they struggle to stay in the playoff chase. Chicago is currently trailing by 1.5 games both the Minnesota Twins and the Cleveland Guardians who are tied for top spot in the AL Central.
The 29-year-old Anderson is batting .301 on the season, with 50 runs scored in 74 games.
The news of his surgery comes down one day before the anniversary of probably his greatest moment in the majors—his dramatic, breathtaking, history-making walk-off homer in last year's debut Field of Dreams Game. This year's game goes tonight.
