Two Mariners Pitchers Begin Rehab Assignment

Seattle Mariners pitchers Diego Castillo and Ken Giles have begun their rehab assignments.

Castillo's latest rehab appearance was not pretty as he let up five runs and managed just two outs on Sunday for High-A Everett.

Castillo threw 20 pitches and allowed three hits and one walk before being mercifully lifted from the game. The twenty-eight-year-old has been out since late July due to right shoulder inflammation and will most likely require an additional rehab appearance or two before being cleared to return to the Mariners' bullpen.

He has a 3.93 ERA on the season, with 36 strikeouts and six saves across 36 innings.
Ken Giles fired a scoreless inning on Sunday in a rehab appearance for High-A Everett.

His night went much better than Castillo's, as Giles needed just 10 pitches (10 strikes) to retire the side while striking out two. The thirty-one-year-old still doesn't have a timetable to return after landing on the injured list in early July with right shoulder tightness. Giles has really struggled to stay healthy the past few years, after being one of the game's best shutdown relievers in the past. He's appeared in just 4 innings for the Mariners this season.
