Twins Acquire Star Pitcher from Reds

The Minnesota Twins have acquired pitcher Tyler Mahle from the Cincinnati Reds.

The return for the Reds is infielder Spencer Steer (No. 7 team-ranked prospect), infielder Christian Encarnacion-Strand (No. 23 team-ranked prospect), and left-handed pitcher Steve Hajjar (No. 18 team-ranked prospect).

Since the end of May, the twenty-seven-year-old has been on a tear, posting a very good 2.83 ERA, with 64 strikeouts in 57 innings.

Mahle has one more year of arbitration left on his contract before he becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2024.

The Twins, who also picked up a closer today in Jorge Lopez, but add some much-needed rotation help without having to give up any of their top-five prospects.

The Reds have now acquired three of the Mariners' top-five prospects and three of the Twins' top-23 prospects this trade deadline.
