Tampa Bay Rays Forced To Place Two Key Players On IL
The Rays have:

-placed INF/OF Brandon Lowe (right triceps contusion) on the 10-day IL, retroactive to Aug 28,
- placed LH Shane McClanahan (left shoulder impingement) on the 15-day IL
- recalled INF/OF Vidal Bruján and RH Calvin Faucher from Triple-A Durham.
He'll be joined on the injured list by INF/OF Brandon Lowe, who has a right triceps contusion.
McClanahan had said after he was scratched from his start with a shoulder injury that "we’re actually pretty optimistic about it. We don’t think it’s anything major, hopefully." But for now, he'll have to rest it for at least 15 days.
In a best case situation, a pitcher with a shoulder impingement, as #Rays think McClanahan has, could miss only about 2 weeks if cortisone shot treatment helps https://t.co/hdYEjTVEZe

As noted by Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, the injury McClanahan has would be treated first with a cortisone shot, and if it 'takes', then he could be ready to go again at the end of the 15 days. The earliest he can return is Sept. 15th.
As for Lowe, he was hit on his elbow by a pitch last Friday, and will give it a rest on the 10-day IL; he's eligible to return on Sept. 7th.
To replace the two players, the Rays have recalled INF/OF Vidal Bruján and RH Calvin Faucher from Triple-A Durham.
