Red Sox Sign Former All-Star Mets Closer
The Boston Red Sox have added some depth to their bullpen mix, signing former New York Mets All-Star closer Jeurys Familia to a minor league contract.
The Red Sox have signed veteran reliever Jeurys Familia and he will join the WooSox today in Scranton/WB. The 32-year-old has spent 11 seasons in the majors mostly with the New York Mets where he had 94 saves combined during the 2015 & 2016 seasons.

Familia, 32, will start off with Triple-A Worcester.
He's an 11-year major league veteran, with his most successful seasons coming in 2015 and 2016, the latter of which saw him lock down an MLB-leading 51 saves, following up a 43-save effort the year before.
He's never quite recaptured that magic, however, though he had a couple of very serviceable years in the Mets' bullpen in 2020 and 2021.
Familia was signed to a one-year, $6M deal this past offseason by the Philadelphia Phillies, but struggled badly with a 6.09 ERA before being released over the weekend.
The Red Sox bullpen has been a bit in flux most of the season, so there's a possibility he could be given a chance at some point.
