Santana was signed to a minor league contract last month when the Red Sox were dealing with multiple injuries to their regular outfield players. He never played a game in the majors this season.
The thirty-one-year-old only played 38 games last season, slashing a poor .181/.252/.345, with five home runs, 14 RBIs and four stolen bases.
