To make room on the 40-man roster, RH Kevin Herget and RH Tommy Romero were designated for assignment.

This is a bit of a surprise. Tommy Romero was among one of the Rays' most promising prospects entering the year and made his major league debut a few months ago.
The twenty-five year old has only made a few appearances this season, posting a 7.71 ERA and five strikeouts over 4.2 innings of work. He should generate plenty of interest on the waiver wire.
Kevin Herget was also designated for assignment.
The long-time minor leaguer was finally called up to the major leagues last week but, ultimately, did not get into a game with the Rays.
The thirty-one year old has posted a strong 2.45 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 82 strikeouts over 80 innings pitched in the minors this season. He's started 14 of the 16 games he's appeared in, and has posted an 8-1 record.
It remains to be seen if teams will show interest in Herget on the waiver wire.
