Rangers Option Rookie Outfielder
The Texas Rangers designated him for assignment earlier this week and, now, he's successfully cleared waivers.
As a result, the Rangers have sent outfielder Elier Hernandez outright to Triple-A Round Rock.

Because Hernandez has less than five years of service time in the majors, and because it was the first time it happened, he had no choice but to accept being outrighted.
The twenty-seven year old rookie really struggled in his major league debut, hitting just .182/.200/.242, with three RBIs, two doubles and 15 strikeouts over 14 games.

In the minors this season, Hernandez has been great, slashing .295/.364/.910, with 40 runs scored, 11 home runs, 35 RBIs and nine stolen bases across 207 at-bats. Photo Credit: Neville E. Guard-USA TODAY Sports
