Phillies Trade for Blue Jays Pitcher

The Philadelphia Phillies are trading for pitcher Vinny Nittol for minor league catcher Karl Ellison.
The Phillies reportedly plan to add Nittoli to their big league roster on Thursday, per Jeff Passan.
The Phillies traded for right-handed reliever Vinny Nittoli and plan to add him to their big league roster tomorrow, sources tell ESPN. Nittoli intended to opt out of his minor league deal today, but Toronto shipped him to Philadelphia first. He has excelled at AAA this year.

The thirty-one-year-old has only ever made one career appearance in the majors but figures to get a few more here down the stretch on his new team.
Nittoli has been pretty good in the minors this season, posting a 3.30 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and 59 strikeouts over 46 innings. He has a 4-1 record, and of the 32 games he's appeared in, he's started four of them and converted two saves.
He's split time in the minors between Triple-A Wilkes Barre/Scranton and Triple-A Buffalo this season.
