Orioles Outfielder DFA'd For 2nd Time In A Month

There's been a bit of a run on teams looking for center fielders in recent days in the majors. Now add one more available on the waiver wire, as the Baltimore Orioles have designated former Tampa Bay Rays fan favorite Brett Phillips for assignment.

Phillips only got to spend two weeks in Baltimore, but he surely won over a few fans and teammates in the process.

Phillips, despite his offensive challenges, might still find a job in the majors this season. In recent days, the Toronto Blue Jays claimed Jackie Bradley Jr. off waivers from the Boston Red Sox, and then the Philadelphia Phillies claimed Bradley Zimmer off waivers from the Jays.

Phillips, in between trading smiles and laughs with fans and teammates alike, hit two doubles in 17 at-bats for the O's—his only hits. Overall, he has a career batting average of .188, but Rays fans will certainly remember some big clutch hits he had for them, one in particular.

Phillips will now attempt to find a new home for his smile and his gift for simply loving the game of baseball and having fun.
