Ominous Update On Injured Astros Outfielder

'Going for a second opinion.' That's usually not a phrase that inspires confidence in an injured ballplayer. But that's unfortunately the ominous update on Houston Astros outfielder Michael Brantley.

The 35-year-old has been out for six weeks with an injured right shoulder, and now a second medical opinion is being sought to determine next steps. Astros GM James Click has been honest about the fact that it's possible Brantley might not be able to return this season.

He was shut down in mid-July when his shoulder didn't respond well to swinging a bat, and Brantley does have a history of shoulder surgeries, so the signs are not all that promising.

The 5-time All-Star has played 64 games this season, and is batting .288 with a .785 OPS, along with 5 HR and 26 RBIs.

The Astros have been going with the likes of Jake Meyers, Chas McCormick, Mauricio Dubon and Aledmys Diaz to fill out their outfield, alongside Kyle Tucker.
