MLB Rumors: Yankees, Rays Talking Trade
The New York Yankees have landed Frankie Montas, Lou Trivino, Scott Effross and Andrew Benintendi, but they aren't done yet. They're currently in talks, surprisingly, with division rival Tampa Bay Rays, on two players.
As evidence of Cashman’s continued efforts after big trades, Yankees have talked to Rays about Brett Phillips and Ji-man Choi, per sources. No traction to this point but shows they’re still looking for tweaks. Also Gallo obv to be traded. @BrendanKutyNJ 1st reported Philips https://t.co/YJqZqd1eFI

Brett Phillips was designated for assignment by the Rays yesterday after they acquired outfielders Jose Siri and David Peralta leading up to the deadline, so they have 7 days to either deal him or place him on waivers.
Phillips has been a fan favorite for years in Tampa Bay, and no player in baseball has more fun playing the game than him.
Ji-Man Choi is a first baseman who's provided some big hits for the Rays over the years, including against the Yankees, so they'd do well to bring him over to the other side. He's batting .257 this season with a .770 OPS, along with 8 HR and 46 RBIs.
The Rays are still looking for a right-handed hitter, and perhaps a catcher, according to Tampa beat writer Marc Topkin.
