MLB Rumors: Top 2 Suitors For Tyler Mahle

With Luis Castillo and Frankie Montas already dealt, Tyler Mahle is one of the top starters known to be available on Trade Deadline Day, and according to MLB Insider Jon Heyman, two teams are hot on his trail.

Heyman says the Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Twins are in pursuit of Mahle. Both teams have been clear about their need to upgrade their starting pitching if they are to make serious runs down the stretch.

Mahle is having a decent year, with a 4.40 ERA for the Cincinnati Reds, with a 114:39 strikeout to walk ratio. But he's been getting stronger and stronger as the season has gone along. The right-hander has a 3.02 ERA and 1.05 WHIP since late June, and a 50:11 K:BB.

Last season, he led the majors with 33 starts and posted a nice 3.75 ERA, not easy to do in the Great American Ball Park.

The Phillies have had injury troubles in their rotation and could use a workhorse like Mahle, while the Twins are trying to cling to the AL Central lead, and could use another strong starter.
