MLB Rumors: Former GM Names Top 5 Teams In Race For Shohei Ohtani
While everyone focuses on the Juan Soto Sweepstakes, another generational superstar just might be dealt as well. The Los Angeles Angels have been listening to offers on Shohei Ohtani, and a trade for the two-way once-in-a-lifetime talent could swing the World Series chase in a heartbeat.
Former MLB GM Jim Bowden says that 5 teams would be "the most likely destinations" if Ohtani does indeed get traded before Tuesday's 6PM Eastern deadline.
He names the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, Toronto Blue Jays and St. Louis Cardinals as the likely markets to land the ace pitcher/slugger if a deal goes down.
There are no surprises on that list, as all of them are large markets, strong contenders, and are teams loaded with young talent that could satisfy the Angels' needs. Bowden figures the teams that lose out on Soto could quickly pivot to Sho Time.

But bottom line, according to Bowden, is that he expects any trade for Ohtani to more likely take place in the offseason. But, he says... "you never know."
