MLB Rumors: Cleveland Guardians Miss Out On 2 Players
According to Paul Hoynes, the Cleveland Guardians had trade talks regarding Sean Murphy and Eric Hosmer before the deadline. Murphy of course stayed put with the Oakland Athletics, while Eric Hosmer ended up with the Boston Red Sox.
Thus, the Guardians didn't necessarily have a quiet deadline by choice. They wanted to make upgrades at the catcher and first base position, but alas, they ended up missing out on both of these players.
Murphy has had a solid year with the A's, as he has 13 home runs, 58 RBIs, and a .247 batting average. Hosmer, on the other hand, has eight home runs, 35 RBIs, and a .269 batting average in 92 games split between the San Diego Padres and Red Sox.
