Juan Soto Blockbuster Is A Done Deal
An agreement is in place for the biggest deadline deal in MLB history. We have a winner in the Juan Soto Sweepstakes, as the San Diego Padres are acquiring the superstar from the Washington Nationals.

One of the biggest deals in baseball history goes down, and it sends the 23-year-old to SD, where he will team with Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado.
Soto will now team up with Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado to create baseball's version of a Big Three.
The Padres also acquire Josh Bell in the deal, filling a big need at first base as well.

- LHP MacKenzie Gore
- OF Robert Hassell III
- SS C.J. Abrams
- OF James Wood
- RHP Jarlin Susana
- one more major league player
That's the only holdup right now to the agreed-upon deal.
The Nationals receive a massive haul of McKenzie Gore, CJ Abrams, Robert Hassell III, James Wood and Jarlin Susana, basically ALL of the Padres' top prospects.
But that "one more major league player" that Passan mentions—Eric Hosmer—is turning out to be a major headache. The Nationals are listed on his "no-trade" clause. He has to OK his inclusion. All the pressure (and the power) is now on him to accept.
This is the most power Eric Hosmer's had all season

If that little complication does get worked out, the Pads will have added the best closer in baseball (Josh Hader) and arguably the best hitter in baseball, all in the space of about 24 hours. GM A.J. Preller is determined not to let a second-half swoon derail their playoff hopes as in 2021.
