"I'm Done With Replay!": Another Controversial Home Plate Call Overturned

It was another close play at the plate that was overturned by a replay review, costing a team a ballgame. This time, the San Diego Padres were the victims, and neither their manager nor their fans were happy with the decision.

Padres runner Brandon Drury was initially ruled safe on the field, and it looked like he got his hand in under the tag in a bang-bang play at the plate. But replays showed that his fingers were slightly raised above the plate while the tag was being applied.

Fans erupted with boos, and began throwing things on the field in protest.

“I thought I got my fingertips in there, and then obviously we all saw the same thing on the replay,” Drury said. “I just didn’t see anything to overturn it at all. It was a close play, no doubt. But the call on the field was safe, and I can’t believe they overturned that from what I saw.”

Exasperated Padres manager Bob Melvin was even more blunt. I’m done with replay,” he said. “I don’t know. I mean, clear and convincing? I’m not sure. Certainly didn’t go our way.”

The Padres lost 1-0 to the San Francisco Giants, and San Diego has now scored in just 4 of their last 45 innings, and have lost 5 straight.

A controversial replay overturn of a play at the plate also cost the Minnesota Twins a game on the weekend, a call that Twins manager Rocco Baldelli called "chicken sh*t.
